Course Info - 10 Km Road Race




A 10km Road Race is organized parallel to the Athens Classic Marathon race, starting from and finishing in the Panathinaikon Stadium, open to anyone willing to participate. The 10km Road Race was held for the first time in 1998, and it is organized on the route defined hereunder since 2004. The course has been measured by an official (Grade A) IAAF & AIMS Measurer.

The 10km Road Race starts at 09.15. The starting line is found on Vas. Konstantinou Avenue, in front of the "I. FOKIANOS" Gym. The course remains the same as all previious years with the only difference being the fact that the runners will change lane in front of Hilton Hotel.


The race starts with the opposite direction with regard to the Marathon Race and it goes upwards for the first 5km, while runner turn around and run the rest 5km backwards heading to the Panathinaikon Stadium.

The first half of the course is rather uphill with flat parts in the way. It goes through one of the most central roads of Athens. Vas. Sofias Avenue. It passes by the National Library building, the Hilton Hotel, the glass Runne Statue, the Music Hall of Athens, the Park of Freedom, the USA Embasssy. In front of the Athens Tower, the runners enter Mesogeion Avenue and then they follow Michalakopoulou Str. The course is quite uphill from the National Police Academy up to the Katechaki Bridge. This is the most difficult part of the course. The runners turn around in front of the G. GENNIMATAS Hospital. The rest half of the course is considered easy with the runners finishing in the Panathinaikon Stadium.

The runners should find themselves in their appropriate block at least 15' minutes before the start. For their facilitation and safety, the runners will be placed in three (3) different starting blocks. The blocks will start with 4' minutes difference each. The runners are assured that both their gun and net time will be listed in the official results of the race.
